[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Too much studying

Korea changes education policies too often. One such an example is to revive a competitive grading system for elementary school students in Seoul proposed by the city recently. Educational authorities said the reason for doing so is that the educational achievements of primary school students decreased over the past few years.
But I believe young students should have more time to play rather than study. They should have a time to observe nature. Elementary school students spend too much time and energy studying. My cousin who is a fifth grader, for example, spends his afternoons and night in private institutes.
I believe young students should be free from competition for grades. Competition is already too much for middle and high school students. Young students should be saved from such a miserable time in primary school.
