[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]The poor face a cold winter
I am a small-scale businessman living in a small detached house. As international crude oil prices are soaring, domestic oil prices are also soaring, adding to the concerns of low-income class households facing the upcoming cold winter. While dwellers in apartment buildings and high-priced detached houses are using city gas, whose price is relatively low, for heating, the dwellers in houses with oil-fueled heaters, like me, hesitate to operate them due to the high oil prices. It is also difficult to replace an oil-fueled heater with a briquette-fueled heater.
I can stop running my car and use public transportation to save on gas. But I will have no choice but to operate the oil-fueled heater if cold weather comes, especially as I have children and old parents.
So I want to make a proposal to the government. If the government cuts the tax on oil for heaters for home use, low-income people will spend this winter warm.
