[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Opening the rice market

The negotiation to open rice markets is an urgent issue the government should tackle. The government officials in charge of the negotiation try to find measures to cope with the aftermath of opening the rice markets, as well as to inform people that it is inevitable to open the market. It is undesirable for the government to tell its people that a typhoon will come the day after tomorrow if the typhoon is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
Rice market opening was foretold a decade ago. There are two options now; we can delay opening the market in return for giving a quota of to rice exporting countries, or we can just open the markets with the introduction of a tariff system on imported rice.
In the end, South Korea should open the market.
