Short track skaters clinch fourth World Team event

Korean female short track skaters won the World Team Championship for the fourth straight year on Sunday.
The 2005 championship was held in Chuncheon, Gangwon province. Jin Sun-yu, Kang Yun-mi, Yeo Soo-yeon, Choi Eun-kyung and Jeon Dae-hye competed in the 500, 1,000 and 3,000 meter individual events and the 3,000 meter relay. The team scored 43 points overall, well ahead of China, which scored 35.
Jin won in the 3,000 meter individual and 3,000 meter relay, scoring 12 points. She has already won the individual all-round competitions at the fifth and sixth World Cup Short Track Speed Skating meets this year. Choi scored 10 points, and was the winner of all five competitions at the 2005 Winter Universiade in Innsbruck, Austria.
The men’s team, comprising Ahn Hyun-soo, Lee Seung-hoon, Song Kyung-taek, Seo Ho-jin and Lee Jae-kyung, placed second with 35 points behind Canada’s 43. Canada is first in the world team rankings.
Separately, high school student Lee Sang-hwa won a bronze medal in the women’s 500 meters at the World Single Distance Championships in Inzell, Germany, on Saturday.
