[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Sports, jingoism don’t mix
I want to commend Brian Lee on his recent columns on the inappropriateness of nationalism in sports (“Inappropriate behavior shames national youth team,” March 26; “Dokdo, nationalism and the decline of ssireum redux,”April 2).Athletes should realize, as certain Korean athletes have shamefully failed to do, that sports venues are not the place to spew political rhetoric.
After reading Mr. Lee’s columns, I hope many readers will realize that extreme nationalism has no place in modern and civilized Korean society.
