Hauzen League opens in frenzy of goals

Kim Jin-yong of Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i delivered the first goal at the 2005 Hauzen K-league opening game in Ulsan on Sunday, helping the home team win their match against FC Seoul, 1-0.
Mr. Kim, 22, displayed his killer instincts earlier in the year by scoring six goals during the Hauzen Cup that ended on May 8. The K-league’s regular season continues until July 10.
In the 46th minute, Mr. Kim headed in a cross from midfielder Hyun Young-min to score the only goal in the game.
The victory was sweet revenge following FC Seoul’s 2-1 win against the Horang-i on May 1 in Seoul in a Hauzen Cup game. FC Seoul’s young prodigy, Park Chu-young, 19, scored the decisive goal in that match.
Both under the spotlight, Mr. Kim and Mr. Park were selected for the national team the same day, and have been compared with each other in competition as future lead strikers for team Korea.
In an away game in Daejeon, Suwon Samsung Bluewings again proved that Daejeon Citizen is still their nemesis, managing only a 1-1 draw.
From the 2003 season, Suwon, the winner of this year’s Hauzen Cup, have had no wins, five losses and four draws against Daejeon.
Suwon gave up a goal in the first minute of the second half to Leandro Costa Miranda, who volleyed home a corner kick from Lee Kwan-woo with his right foot.
In the 22nd minute, Suwon defender Kwak Hee-ju saved the team from losing with his first goal since he joined the team.
Brazilian forward Sandro Cardoso Dos Santos and Nadson Rodrigues De Souza led Suwon’s offense, but to no avail as the Citizens’ defense held firm. Mr. Dos Santos has returned to Suwon this season after playing the last season in the Japanese “J League.”
In Gwangyang, the Chunnam Dragons beat Daegu FC 4-1 thanks to a huge contribution from Romanian forward Adrian Constantin Neaga, who scored a “hat trick.”
Kim Tae-soo scored the first goal for Chunnam, and in the last minute of the first half, Neaga slotted home a pass from Namgung Do with his right foot.
In the 10th minute of the second half, a free kick in front of the arc by the former Romanian national team member curved superbly into the net for his second goal. Four minutes later, Neaga’s thundering right foot shot from Kim Woo-jae’s cross completed his hat trick.
Incheon United won 1-0 against Pohang Steelers with a debut goal by Choi Hyo-jin.
The goal ended the Steelers’ 15-game stretch without a loss. In the 23rd minute of the second half, Mr. Choi headed home a looping pass off the head of Radoncic Dzenan on the left side of Pohang’s penalty area.
