[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]Privatization’s drawback
Published: 17 Jul. 2005, 21:43
While I strongly oppose standardized, inefficient education in Korea, I have the greatest animosity toward privatization of education without safeguards to protect the poor. If it is privatized, neither governmental intervention nor subsidies could be used to protect low-income students from losing the opportunity to learn. This could result in an extreme information gap between the rich and the poor. Eventually, most of the people who obtained professional educations would be more likely to obtain well-paying jobs, while the others worked in harsh conditions for low pay. Deeper marginalization would follow.
