[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]An excellent teacherCongratulations to your newspaper for your article on the recent English teaching contest in Seoul. Your positive article focuses on what is being done right by the many thousands of hard-working Korean teachers of English.
I remember winner Choi Su-yeong of Jeonil Middle School well, from 1998, when I was the resident lecturer in English at the North Jeolla Teachers’ Training Institute and Ms. Choi was a “beginner teacher” in my class. Her talent, diligence and positive attitude distinguished her even at the beginning of her career. Clearly, like good wine, she is improving steadily and I’m delighted to see her excellence recognized by her fellow professionals.
Nowadays when there is so much criticism of teachers ― usually by non-teachers ― it’s wonderful of your newspaper to feature this story of excellence and success. It’s a pleasure to read your article and see Ms Choi’s smiling, positive face once again.
