[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]North, Cuba not allying
Your article posted on Sept. 28th, “The Cuban Defense Minister says that the socialism of Cuba and North Korea is OK,” seems to have some problems. It may be true that Cuban Defense Minister Raul Castro has met Yang Hyong-sop, vice-president of the North Korean Supreme People’s Assembly; however, the details of the meeting were far more ambiguous than you allow. The article says that Raul Castro met the North Korean delegation headed by Mr. Yang, and apparently Raul Castro stated that socialism in North Korea and Cuba will continue without any turbulence, which is little better than a cliche. The article makes it seems as if Raul Castro went out of his way to meet the North Korean delegation in order to consolidate relations with the nation. I am afraid the author may be misinforming readers by giving the impression that the two nations are formulating a leftist union when the truth is something far different. This visit by Yang was far more a matter of formally flying the flag than charged with negotiating serious issues.by Song Yun-joo
