[LETTERS to the editor]Sri Lanka will accept a child born here to illegal immigrant parents

I read with great interest the report by staff writer Limb Jae-un under the title, “A home for the countryless” (March 9).
Reference has been made in this report to a boy born in Korea to Sri Lankan parents who are staying in the country illegally and that the boy is a citizen of neither country.
I am writing to inform you that if the parents can produce documents such as their genuine passports, marriage certificates and birth certificate of the child in Korea, that the birth of the child can be registered by the Embassy, which will entitle him to Sri Lankan citizenship.
I shall be most grateful if this information is brought to the notice of the parents of the boy.
