[NOTICE]French professor to give free lecture Tuesday

The Center for EU Studies, jointly established by Seoul National University and the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, invited Professor Guy Sorman of the Institut d’Etude Politique in France to speak next week at a lecture to commemorate Jean Monnet’s achievements in European integration.
The title of the lecture is “Challenges to European Capitalism: European Union’s Perspective.” The JoongAng Ilbo is sponsoring the first in the series of annual lectures organized by the center. Admission is free.
Mr. Sorman, a member of the French Human Rights Commission and a columnist for Le Figaro, will challenge the argument of Edmund Phelps, winner of this year’s Nobel prize for economics, that the U.S. capitalist model is more efficient and ethical than the European social democratic model.
The lecture will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the International Conference Room at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry building in downtown Seoul. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided from English to Korean. Telephone inquiries can be made to (02) 880-4047 or (02) 751-9747.
