A Chinese ship waited almost eight hours to report a collision in thick fog that sank a Korean steel freighter ship off China's east coast early Saturday, the Foreign Ministry said. Sixteen crew members are missing.

토요일 새벽 짙은 안개가 깔린 중국의 동쪽 해역에서 발생한 충돌로 한국 화물선이 침몰했다는 사실을 중국 선박이 거의 8시간이 지난 뒤에 신고했다고 외교통상부가 밝혔다. 선원 16명은 실종됐다.
The container ship Jinsheng reported the incident to Chinese maritime authorities seven hours and 45 minutes after it struck the Golden Rose, the ministry said. Seven South Koreans, eight Burmese and one Indonesian were missing last night.
중국 컨테이너선 진셩호는 한국 화물선 골든 로즈호와 충돌한 뒤 7시간 45분이 지난 뒤에 중국 해사당국에 그 사고를 보고했다고 외교통상부가 밝혔다. 한국인 7명, 버마인 8명, 인도네시아인 1명이 어제 밤까지 실종상태다.

"우리가 아는 바로는 중국 선박이 충돌 후 바로 다롄항을 향해 떠났다"고 부광해운의 한 관계자가 어제 회사 사무실로 찾아온 실종자 가족 40여명에게 말했다. 부산 소재 부광해운은 골든 로즈호를 소유한 회사다.
The collision happened in the Yellow Sea near Yantai, Shandong Province, around 4 a.m. Korean time, Chinese maritime police said. The Golden Rose was heading from Dalian, Liaoning in China to Dangjin on South Korea's west coast carrying 5,900 tons of steel.
중국 해경은 그 충돌사고가 한국시간으로 새벽 4시쯤 산동성 옌타이 부근 황해에서 발생했다고 말했다. 골든 로즈호는 5천9백톤의 강철제품을 싣고 중국 랴오닝성 다롄에서 한국의 당진으로 항해하고 있었다.
After receiving the report, Chinese maritime authorities mobilized 19 boats, two helicopters and one airplane for search and rescue operations, but no survivors or bodies had been found late last night, except for two life rafts and some articles confirmed to have belonged to the South Korean vessel, China's official Xinhua News Agency said.

신고를 받고 중국 해사당국은 보트 19대, 헬리콥터 2대, 항공기 1대를 동원해 수색구조 작전을 벌였다. 그러나 어제 밤 늦게까지 생존자를 한명도 찾지 못했고, 한국 화물선의 잔해와 구명 고무보트 2개만 발견했다고 중국관영 신화사통신이 보도했다.
UN maritime law obligates a vessel causing any collision with another to make efforts to save the lives of the people harmed in the collision. The Chinese government launched an investigation yesterday into why it took so long for the Jinsheng to report the accident and whether it made any effort to rescue the missing crew of the Golden Rose, Yonhap said, quoting a source in China with knowledge of the case.

유엔 해양법은 충돌을 일으킨 선박은 그 충돌로 피해입은 사람들을 구조하는 노력을 해야 한다고 의무조항을 명시해 놓고 있다. 중국정부는 진셩호가 왜 그렇게 늦게 사고를 신고했는지 그리고 골든 로즈호 선원들을 구조하려는 노력을 했는지를 밝혀내기 위해 조사에 착수했다고 연합통신이 중국 소식통을 인용해 보도했다.
After being notified of the accident, the foreign ministry sent two officials from the Korean Embassy in Qingdao, Shandong Province, to the spot of the accident and asked them to cooperate with the Chinese government's effort to figure out the cause.

외교통상부는 사고소식을 통보받고 산동성 칭다오 주재 한국대사관 직원 두명을 현장에 파견했으며, 중국정부와 협력해서 사고원인을 파악하도록 지시했다.
