Lee Myung-bak wins GNP primary

고함 소리와 비방이 모두 끝났을 무렵, 이명박 전 현대건설 사장이 박근혜 후보를 가까스로 이기고 한나라당 대통령 후보로 선출됐다.
Despite a bitter, even vitriolic campaign, Park congratulated Lee and said she would accept the defeat and work to bring the party victory at the polls in December.

"Thank you, thank you," Lee exclaimed before a roaring crowd at the Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Stadium, where the ballots were counted over a four-hour period. Bright colored confetti rained down on the successful candidate.

4시간 동안 개표를 진행했던 서울 올림픽 체조경기장에서 이름을 연호하는 군중 앞에 서서 이 후보는 "감사합니다. 감사합니다."라고 외쳤다. 밝은 색종이 조각들이 경선 승리 후보에게 쏟아졌다.
"I accept this as the people's order to revive the economy and integrate a divided country. I will achieve these goals without fail. And I will make sure that the Grand National Party wins at the end of the year," Lee said.

이 후보는 "저는 이것을 경제를 다시 살리고 분열된 국가를 하나로 통합하라는 국민의 명령으로 받아 들이겠습니다. 저는 이 목표를 기필코 달성하겠습니다. 그리고 한나라당이 연말 대선에서 반드시 승리하도록 하겠습니다." 라고 말했다.
"I want to ask Ms. Park, who was once my competitor, to now undertake a crucial role" in the campaign, he said, adding that it was his desire to hold hands with "everyone who wishes to change the government and build Korea into the leading country of the world."

"저는 경쟁자였던 박근혜 후보님이 [대선과정에서] 중심적 역할을 해주실 것을 부탁드립니다." 고 이 후보는 말했다. 그는 "정권교체를 원하고 대한민국을 선진국으로 만들기를 염원하는 모든 사람들"과 손잡는 것이 자신의 희망이라고 덧붙였다.
Park then calmly took her turn at the microphone. "I, Park Geun-hye, admit defeat," she stated. "I accept the outcome of the primary as it is." In a clear voice, she vowed to help Lee prevail in the presidential election less than four months away.

그리고 박 후보는 차분하게 자신의 차례에 마이크 앞에 섰다. "저, 박근혜는 패배를 인정합니다. 경선결과를 깨끗하게 승복하겠습니다."고 말했다. 분명한 목소리로 박 후보는 4개월 가량 남은 대선에서 이 후보가 승리하도록 돕겠다고 맹세했다.

박 후보가 진심으로 전 서울시장을 축하했을 때 환호와 우레와 같은 박수가 터져 나왔다. "저는 저를 지지하는 여러분들의 과분한 사랑을 받았습니다. 그러나 경선과정에서 서로에게 한 일들을 잊읍시다. 그리고 한가지 목표에만 전념합시다."고 말했다.
