He received an Honorary Academy Award for career achievement in February and conducted during the inaugural ceremony for Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations Secretary General.
The 79-year-old Ennio Morriconeis an eminent composer of modern classical music and he is set to perform in Seoul next month.
It is the first time that Morricone has visited Korea, although he was scheduled to perform in 2005 at Sangam World Cup Stadium. The organizer unexpectedly cancelled the event two days before the maestro was due to take the stage.
Ticketlink, a ticketing Web site, accused the organizer of fraud.
But Seoul Records, Good Concert and Yellow 9 ― the three members of the organizing committee for the upcoming concert, said that there will be no cancellation this year.
“We are different agencies and together we’ve been working hard to recover from the mistakes made two years ago,” said Aram Kim, the manager of Seoul Records Performing Arts Team. For the event, the committee picked the Morricone film scores that are most commonly heard and seen in Korea.
Morricone will perform “Once Upon a Time in America,” “Magic Waltz,” “Cinema Paradiso,” “Malena” and selections from the spaghetti westerns “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and “Once Upon a Time in the West.”
Morricone will conduct the Roma Symphony Orchestra and a choir of 100. Pianist Gilda Butta and Soprano Susanna Rigacci will contribute to the performance as well.
“Ennio Morricone Cinema Concerto in Seoul” will be at Olympic Gymnasium (Olympic Park Station, line No. 5, exit 3) on Oct. 2 at 8:30 p.m. and Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. Tickets range from 60,000 won ($67) to 180,000 won. For more information, call 1544-0737 or visit www.ennio2007.co.kr.
