The thrill of shopping
Published: 30 Nov. 2007, 21:34
The social criticism that shopaholics are merely slaves to mass consumption makes many shopaholics feel uncomfortable. However, the book sides with shopaholics, maintaining that “shopping is a prism of the current society.” The author focuses on the four factors of shopping. The first factor is watching. Window-shopping without purchasing, the author writes, is the same behavior as viewing art at museums. The other factors are choosing, buying and possession. The author describes shopping as a thrilling activity between surplus and deficit. Published by Gaemagowon, the 165-page book is 9,000 won.
