Kim triumphs in skating Grand Prix despite tumble

Overcoming an early fall to the ice in her free-skating program, Korean figure skater Kim Yu-na successfully defended her Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final title yesterday in Turin, Italy.
어제 이탈리아 토리노에서 열린 그랑프리 피겨 스케이팅 결승대회에서 한국의 김연아가 프리스케이팅에서의 실수에도 불구하고 여자싱글 부문 2연패를 달성했다.
The 17-year-old didn't let the mishap affect the rest of her performance, beating out rival Mao Asada of Japan for the gold.

Kim is just the third skater, after American Tara Lipinski and Russian Irina Slutskaya, to repeat as Grand Prix Final champion. Carolina Kostner of Italy took the bronze before the home crowd in her first Grand Prix Final.
그랑프리 파이널 연속 우승자는 미국의 타라 리핀스키와 러시아의 이리나 슬루츠카야에 이어 김연아가 세번째이다. 이탈리아의 캐롤라이나 코스트네르는 홈 관중들이 지켜보는 가운데 그녀가 처음 출전한 그랑프리 결승에서 동메달을 땄다.

한국이 낳은 최고의 피겨스케이팅 선수로 널리 인정받는 김연아는 그랑프리에서 우승한 첫번째 한국인이다. 한국에선 그녀가 2010년 벤쿠버 동계올림픽에서 메달을 획득해주길 기대하고 있다. 한국은 올림픽 피겨 스케이팅 부문에서 아직 메달을 따지 못했다.
The top six skaters from the six-event Grand Prix of Figure Skating circuit competed in Italy. And after the first day's short program, Kim, who won two Grand Prix events this winter, was the leader with 64.62 points.
그랑프리 시즌 중 상위 6명이 이탈리아에서 실력을 겨뤘다. 첫날 열린 쇼트프로그램에서 올해 그랑프리 대회 2개에서 우승한 김연아는 64.62점으로 선두였다.
Skating to "Miss Saigon" in her free program, Kim opened with a series of difficult jumps before falling on her next jump. But she rebounded to land several jump combinations and spin moves to receive 132.21 points for an overall total of 196.83.

프리프로그램에서 김연아는 '미스 사이공'을 배경음악으로 몇 차례 난이도 높은 점프로 연기를 시작했으나 다음 점프에서 넘어졌다. 그러나 그녀는 바로 다시 일어서서 여러 차례의 고난도 점프와 회전을 연기해내 132.21점을 받았으며, 최종합계 196.83점으로 우승했다.
As the last skater to perform, Kim later said she was nervous but happy with her result.
"Last year at the final, I didn't do a perfect performance because of an injury, and I wasn't too happy with it," Kim was quoted as saying on the home page of the International Skating Union, referring to her back problems.

마지막에 연기했던 김연아는 떨렸지만 결과에 만족한다고 말했다. 국제빙상연맹 홈페이지에 따르면 김연아는 허리 부상을 언급하며 "지난해 대회에서는 부상 때문에 완벽한 연기를 하지 못했고 만족하지 못했었다" 고 말했다.
"This year, my body is healthy, and I can do a clean program. I'll try my best for the next competition." Kim added that the key to her victory was her ability to regroup after the fall.
"I grew tense," Kim said. "But I knew I could get a high score if I skated mistake-free the rest of the way. I never lost my focus."

"올해는 건강에 문제가 없고 깔끔한 연기를 할 수 있다. 다음 대회에서도 최선을 다하겠다." 김연아는 넘어진 후에도 흔들리지 않고 초연하게 연기했기 때문에 우승했다고 말했다. "몹시 긴장했다. 그러나 남은 연기에서 실수를 하지 않으면 높은 점수를 받을 수 있다는 것을 알았다. 전혀 집중력을 잃지 않았다."
Asada, who ranked sixth after a mistake-filled short program, posted the highest free-skating score at 132.55 points. But she still fell more than five points behind her Korean rival overall.
At last year's Grand Prix Final, Asada also won the silver medal behind Kim. "It's good to have a rivalry," Asada told The Associated Press. "We want to continue to have good performances and motivate each other."

실수를 연발해서 쇼트프로그램에서 최하위였던 아사다는 프리스케이팅에서 최고점수 132.55점을 기록했다. 그러나 그녀는 총점에서 그녀의 한국의 경쟁자에게 5점 이상 뒤졌다. 지난해 그랑프리 결승 대회에서도 아사다는 김연아에 뒤져 은메달에 머물렀다. 아사다는 AP에 "경쟁자가 있다는 것은 좋은 일이다. 우리는 계속 좋은 연기를 펼쳐 서로에게 자극이 되기를 원한다."고 말했다.
