Entering the final round with a four-stroke cushion, the 37-year-old Korean fought off blustery conditions at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii, to close with a 1-over par 71 and take the season's second tournament at 14-under par. Choi took home $954,000 for his efforts.

"I can't remember having as difficult a round as today," Choi told The Associated Press. He is the first Sony Open champion in 41 years with a final round over par. "It was very difficult conditions out there," Choi said. "I told myself, 'Try not to lose focus.'"

"There were two things that needed to happen today: K.J. to lose a few shots back to the field, and for someone to go low," Sabbatini told AP. "He kind of did his part, but the ones that were chasing, unfortunately, failed to do our jobs and go low enough to maybe change the outcome."
