ⓑ of → for 문맥상 어떠한 사항에 대비한다는 의미의 ‘plan for’로 수정.
ⓒ advance → precautionary 어떠한 것을 예방하기 위해 사전에 취하는 조치는 ‘precautionary’ measure라고 표현. 참고로 ‘advance’는 시기적으로 ‘앞선’의 의미만 지니고 있음
ⓓ rain → the rain 먼 산에서 닥쳐올 구체적인 비를 예상하고 있으므로 관사 the 삽입.
ⓔ in → throughout 문맥 상 중국 역사 전반에 걸쳐 지속적으로 벌어졌음을 나타내므로 전치사 ‘throughout’으로 수정. 참고로 전치사 in의 경우에는 단순히 특정기간에 있어났음을 나타낼 때 사용.
이에 관해서는 우리에게도 잘 알려진 명구가 있다. “편안하게 있을 때 위험을 미리 생각하니, 그러한즉 대비함이 있을 것이요, 준비를 잘 한다면 또한 걱정이 없을 것(居安思危, 思則有備, 有備無患)”이라고 한 말이다. 『좌전(左傳)』에 등장하는 것으로서 우리에게는 ‘유비무환’만이 잘 알려져 있지만 ‘편안하게 있을 때 위험을 미리 생각한다’는 말은 옆에 두고 내내 곱씹어볼 만한 구절이다.
