Lee plans for an eco-friendly future

In something resembling a second inaugural address, President Lee Myung-bak yesterday provided his vision of “low-carbon, green growth” for the nation’s economic development during the next decade.

두 번째 대통령 취임사인 듯한 대국민 연설에서 이명박 대통령은 어제 차기 10년 동안 경제 발전 비전으로 “저탄소, 녹색성장”을 제시했다.
Lee used his Liberation Day address to sketch out his plans on how to improve the nation’s competitive power by establishing a system of security, trust and rule of law.

광복절 기념식 연설에서 이 대통령은 안보, 신뢰, 법치 체계 수립을 통해 국가 경쟁력을 증진시키는 방안을 개략적으로 말했다.
Marking the 63rd anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japan and the 60th year of the Republic of Korea’s foundation, the government invited 34,000 citizens and dignitaries to a ceremony at Gyeongbok Palace, followed by a street parade downtown.

정부는 시민과 각계 인사 3만4천여 명을 경복궁에서 열린 기념식에 초대해 광복 63주년과 대한민국 건국 60주년을 경축하고 도심 시가행진을 벌였다.
In an address titled as “A Great People with New Dreams” that was broadcast live around the nation, Lee said he focused his vision on environmentally friendly and economically useful development. He did not deeply go into politically sensitive issues, particularly those concerning North Korea and Japan.

전국으로 생방송 중계된 “위대한 국민, 새로운 꿈”이란 연설에서 이 대통령은 친환경적이고 경제적으로 유용한 발전에 관한 비전 제시에 초점을 맞췄다. 그는 정치적으로 민감한 이슈들, 특히 북한과 일본에 관한 이슈들은 본격적으로 언급하지 않았다.
The much-anticipated speech followed months of rough sledding for Lee as his government has been buffeted by a series of anti-administration candlelight vigils. After Lee’s address, the Blue House said that a list of 100 projects will be announced next month to implement Lee’s vision.

이 대통령의 이 연설은 이명박 정부가 몇 달 동안 반정부 촛불시위들과 고투를 벌이면서 어려운 시기를 보낸 뒤 나왔다. 이 대통령이 연설을 한 뒤, 청와대는 이 대통령의 비전을 실행하기 위해 다음달 중 100대 프로젝트를 발표할 것이라고 밝혔다.
