성공의 조건
프랭클린 루스벨트를 성공한 대통령의 모델로 꼽는 데 주저하는 사람은 별로 없다. 대공황과 제2차 세계대전을 이겨내고 미국이 초강대국으로 등극하는 기반을 닦았다.

ⓑ the modern history → modern history 구체적으로 특정 근현대역사를 이야기하는 것이 아니라, 일반적 시점인 근현대를 이야기하고 있는 것이므로 정관사 the 삭제
ⓒ trudged → led 문맥에 맞게 ‘~을 ~상태로 이끌다’라는 의미를 지닌 동사 ‘lead’로 수정. 참고로 ‘trudge’는 ‘터벅터벅 걷다’라는 의미의 동사
ⓓ over → through ‘~시기를 거쳐서’라는 의미의 전치사 ‘through’로 수정. 참고로 전치사 ‘over’는 ‘(특정 기간) 동안’이라는 의미를 지님

버락 오바마가 새 미국 대통령으로 취임했다. 한 가지 분명해 보이는 건 그가 일류의 지성을 갖췄다는 점이다. 거기다 일류의 자질까지 갖췄다면 그는 성공을 예약해 둔 셈이 된다. 다행히도 그는 하드파워와 소프트파워를 적절히 활용하는 균형 감각을 중시할 것으로 보인다. 오바마가 부시의 전철을 밟지는 않을 것이란 성급한 예견이 나오는 까닭이다.

ⓓ as a replicate of Roosevelt or Bush → like Roosevelt or like Bush 영어에 자연스러운 간략한 표현으로 수정. 참고로 replicate는 보통 ‘복사하다, 모사하다’라는 의미의 동사로 사용됨
ⓔ wait → have to wait 문맥상 ‘기다려봐야 한다’는 의미이므로 ‘have to’ 삽입
