[NEW RELEASES]Franz Ferdinand
Ever wanted to know what lurks under the kilt? Franz Ferdinand’s third album does its best to show you in this 42-minute journey through a hedonistic night on the town with four mischievous Scottish lads. It’s enough to make you wonder what’s in the water in Glasgow.
“Tonght: Franz Ferdinand” is pure sex - if somewhat sleazy sex - with a song titled “Bite Hard” and lyrics like: “Flick your cigarette and kiss me/ Kiss me where your eyes won’t meet me” and “I don’t care his breath is in your hair ... Can’t you let me stay tonight?”
Billed as an album to dance to, the guitars play second string to synthesizers in a mash of styles that some label disco-punk. But as it tries to tell a story, the album is better listened to in its entirety - from dusk to dawn, so to speak.
“Lucid Dreams,” is an exhilarating, eight-minute pop song which spirals out of control into electro acid-house, and “Ulysses,” although unlikely to reach the heights of “Take Me Out,” is a great way to start out your night. By Cam Graham
