“Orchestra de Nodame Story”

Most people don’t associate the word fun with classical music. But “Nodame Cantabile” has turned that around. The music of “Nodame,” the hit drama and animation series from Japan’s Fuji TV, has captured the hearts of its fans, and the show has been releasing soundtracks since 2003. The music, performed mostly by the Nodame Orchestra, is arranged to depict the show’s story line and the individual traits of the main characters.

The 2-CD set features an orchestral version of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E flat major, Op. 55, and another version for piano.

Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos in D major, K. 448, which in the series is played by Megumi “Nodame” Noda and Shinichi Chiaki, the love of her life, is one of the most impressive songs in this collection. Debussy’s “The Joyous Isle” is an endearing piano piece played by the love-struck Nodame.

What makes the album interesting is that it doesn’t just show the good side of the Nodame charcters, but their grief and pain as well. Contributed by Lee Hae-joo
