Park’s role in party politics
The Grand National Party’s devastating defeat in the by-elections on April 29/ demonstrates how weary conservative voters are and/ underlines doubts about the ruling party’s irksome internal power struggle.
4·29 재·보선에서 한나라당의 참패는/ 보수적 유권자들이 얼마나 싫증이 나 있는지를 증명하는 것이며/ 여당(집권세력)의 지루한 내부 권력투쟁에 대한 불신을 분명히 나타내고 있는 것이다.
Yet the president and party leadership/ have failed to come up with any viable solution to the problem.
그런데도 대통령과 당지도부는/ 이런 문제에 대한 실행 가능한 아무런 해결책을 내놓지 못했다.
Former party leader Park Geun-hye returned from an overseas trip yesterday, and/ her timing was perfect for attracting the public’s interest.
(이런 혼란 가운데) 박 전 대표가 어제 해외여행에서 돌아왔으며/ 귀국의 타이밍은 국민의 관심을 끌기에 완벽했다.
She has good reason to hold a grudge against the GNP’s main faction/ for deepening the rift within the party,/ responsibility which largely falls on President Lee Myung-bak and his supporters.

But this is not so.

The protests against U.S. beef imports/ may have begun as concern over public health, but/ later developed into full-fledged anti-American, anti-government campaigns.
미국산 쇠고기 수입에 반대한 항의시위는/ 국민건강을 둘러싼 우려로서 시작된 것이었을지 모르지만/ 나중에는 전면적인 반미·반정부 운동으로 전개되었던 것이다.
The question remains/ as to whether the incident would have become such a debacle/ if the beef had been imported from South America or Europe/ and not from the United States.

She must not disregard this important role.
그녀는 이런 중요한 역할을 무시해서는 안 된다.
