Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (PG)

Larry Daley (Ben Stiller), a former night guard, still can’t forget the fantastic adventure he had one night at the Museum of Natural History. So when he goes back to see his old friends, he is more than surprised to find them stocked in crates, ready to be shipped off to the Smithsonian.

When cowboy Jedediah (Owen Wilson), calls after they arrive, Larry instantly knows something is up. The newcomers had awoken the previous inhabitants including the Egyptian King (Hank Azaria), Ivan the Terrible (Christopher Guest), Napoleon Bonaparte (Alain Chabat) and Al Capone (Jon Bernthal).

The quartet, with their Army of the Underworld, plans to take over the museum and then the entire globe. Now Larry, along with his friends Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams), Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams) and the Neanderthals, must do all he can to stop the worst from happening in the largest museum in the world.



Seraphine (12)

Based on a true story, the film focuses on the moving life of French painter Seraphine Louis (Yolande Moreau).

German art collector Wilhelm Uhde (Ulrich Tukur) comes to the small town of Senlis in 1914 to get away from his life in the city. He hires Seraphine, a 40-year-old woman who is the laughing stock of the village, as a cleaner for his house.

One day Wilhelm finds a small painting and is astonished to find out that the artist is none other than his own maid.

This film, co-written and directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, features footage of the earth as seen from the air over more than 50 countries.

The movie captures the planet’s wounds and suggests solutions to its environmental problems.

Inge (Ursula Werner), a married seamstress, is visited by charming customer Karl (Horst Westphal). The two fall for each other and begin a secret love affair.

Inge tries to focus on her daily life with her husband (Horst Rehberg) but can’t get Karl out of her mind. The secret relationship continues, though Inge struggles with the betrayal of her husband and the passion for her new lover.

In order to overcome her feelings of guilt, she confesses the affair to her daughter Petra (Steffi Kuhnert) but only plunges deeper into depression.

The German film, directed by Andreas Dresen and shot in Berlin, has received critical acclaim for its artistic yet natural portrayal of the love of an older couple mixed with the excitement and guilt involved when one partner finds a new lover.



The Echo (15)

In this remake of a popular Filipino thriller, a young ex-con trying to start his life over moves into a new home in an old apartment building.

His neighbor is a violent police officer as well as an abusive father and husband.

The former convict tries to intervene to stop the violence.

But he becomes trapped in an apartment with a mysterious curse.



Lorna’s Silence (18)

Winner of the Best Screenplay award at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, the movie follows Lorna (Arta Dobroshi), an Albanian woman living in Belgium.

Lorna and her boyfriend want to open a snack bar, so they agree to a plan devised by mobster Fabio (Fabrizio Rongione) to help them accomplish that goal. His scam is for Lorna to obtain Belgian citizenship through a false marriage with Claudy (Jeremie Renier). But Fabio doesn’t stop there. He wants Lorna to get married to a Russian mafioso who will guarantee him a large reward.

While Lorna’s feelings for Claudy grow increasingly stronger, it becomes clear that Fabio will do anything to make his plan work.

Hyung-gu (Ha Jung-woo) commutes between the ports of Busan and Japan. One day, he is asked to take a big jar of kimchi to a businessman in Japan. But the jar holds many secrets. Hyung-gu accidentally discovers that the jar is packed with illegal drugs.

Upon discovering the truth, Hyung-gu becomes increasingly anxious and confused. He is forced by his boss to make more deliveries, but the stakes are raised when the next cargo includes a kidnapped woman.
