The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (15)

Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) was just drifting through his daily routine when a group of heavily-armed hijackers storm a New York City subway train in the middle of Manhattan and hold a bunch of passengers ransom. The criminals, led by Ryder (John Travolta), will begin executing the hostages one by one if the authorities fail to deliver the ransom within just one hour.

Walter tries to rescue the passengers before they start their murder spree, but there is something about the criminals he cannot understand. How can the armed men possibly get out of the subway tunnels without being caught even if they receive the money? Is it the money they’re really after?

The movie, directed by Tony Scott and written by Brian Helgeland, is a remake of a 1974 thriller of the same name inspired by John Godey’s best-selling novel.

The internationally-known terrorist Miles Jackson (Aidan Gillen) has kidnapped Molly Porter (Ashley Scott), the girlfriend of Detective Danny Fisher (John Cena). To save her, Danny has to play 12 rounds of dangerous games on the streets of New Orleans.

Danny struggles to accomplish the carefully-plotted rounds, but the clock is ticking and the consequences are hostile. Can he rescue the love of his life before it is too late?



Blood: The Last Vampire (18)

Sixteen-year-old Saya (Gianna Jun) is the only remaining vampire in post World War II Japan. She has been working for the past 400 years in a covert government agency that destroys demons. She preys where evil grows and is highly valued by the authorities.

One day, her boss gives her an assignment: infiltrate the U.S. Air Base’s High School during a Halloween party and hunt down a vampire. Her intuition tells her that it will give her the chance to finally take revenge on her father’s enemy, Onigen (Koyuki), who is also the head of vampires.

The movie is a global project directed by Chris Nahon from France, filmed in China and Argentina, produced by a team of action movie specialists from Hong Kong and written by a Japanese animation writer. The main character is played by Korean actress Jun Ji-hyun, who is well known here.

The movie opened late last month in Japan and was released last week in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Impy’s Wonderland (PG)

It is the first birthday of Impy, a mischievous dinosaur living on an island, and Professor Habakuk Tibatong has something special for him.

But Barnaby, a theme park manager, tricks Impy into believing he can become a famous star and whisks him away.

Impy’s island friends are compelled to go looking for their chum and journey to Wonderland. Will they be able to find and rescue him?

All Detective Jo Pil-seong (Kim Yun-seok) really wants to do is prepare for bull fight competitions. He is eager to impress his wife and daughter, earn money and make a name for himself.

One day, he discovers secret information about a bull fight and wins a large amount of cash. Excited at the thought of showing off his winnings, he heads home.

The excitement doesn’t last long, though. He’s robbed by Song Ki-tae (Jeong Kyeong-ho), a notorious young prison escapee who went missing several years ago. Detective Jo is determined to catch Song, not only to get his money back, but also to impress the people in his town.



Himalaya, Where the Wind Dwells (12)

Company executive Choi (Choi Min-sik) stumbles across the funeral of a young Nepalese worker called Sham when he visits a factory where his younger brother works. Unexpectedly, a guest at the funeral asks Choi to take the remains of the deceased back to his hometown in Nepal and tell the dead man’s family what has happened.

Choi arrives in Zomsom, a mountainous region in Nepal, and finds the family. However, he is unable to break the news to them. Suffering from a form of altitude sickness, he gives Sham’s ashes to the sister, Sunita, and soon the two fall in love.
