Police, workers face off at Ssangyong car factory
ension intensified further yesterday as a standoff between police and Ssangyong Motor's unionized workers continued for a second day. A union leader warned police that members will set fire to a factory if police do not withdraw their forces.*face off : 대결하다, (시합을) 시작하다

경찰과 쌍용차 노조원의 대치가 이틀째 계속되면서 어제 긴장감이 더욱 고조됐다. 노조 지도자는 경찰이 병력을 철수시키지 않으면 공장에 불을 지르겠다고 경고했다.
With a local court's approval to evict the workers, 3,000 riot police were dispatched to the site on Monday and stayed overnight. Over 600 unionized workers have occupied the automaker's car paint factory in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, for 61 days.

법원의 점거 노동자 퇴거집행 명령으로 3천명의 경찰 병력이 월요일에 현장으로 배치돼 하룻밤을 묵었다. 약 6백명의 노조원들은 61일 동안 경기도 평택 자동차 공장의 도장공장을 점거했다.
They demand that the company reinstate laid-off workers. At 6:40 a.m. yesterday, 1,000 riot police officers approached within 30 meters of the paint factory, which contains a large volume of flammable liquids. Other forces surrounding the gates also approached the factory. They moved back and forth during the day.

노조원들은 해고 노동자들을 복직시키라고 요구한다. 어제 오전 6시40분쯤 경찰 병력 1천여명은 인화성 물질이 다량 쌓여있는 도장공장에 30미터 가까이 접근했다. 출입문들을 둘러싸고 있던 다른 경찰 병력도 도장공장에 접근했다. 경찰은 어제 하루 전진과 후퇴를 반복했다.
Workers responded by setting fire to tires in front of the factory. Others on the roof threw Molotov cocktails and used slingshots to shoot screw bolts and nuts at police.
Three officers and one non-unionized Ssangyong worker were injured, hit by flying objects.

노동자들은 공장 앞에서 타이어에 불을 붙여 대응했다. 다른 노동자들은 지붕 위에서 화염병을 던지거나 고무줄 새총으로 볼트와 너트를 경찰에게 쐈다.
경찰 3명과 쌍용차의 비노조원 노동자 1명이 점거 노동자들이 쏜 물체에 맞아 부상을 입었다.
“Whenever bolts flew by my head, I heard the sound of blowing wind,” Park Chang-bok, a riot police officer said. “I felt a cold chill sweep over me.” “One employee’s head was hit by bolts and he had nine stitches at a hospital,” said Jeong Moo-young, a senior public relations official at Ssangyong Motor. “He was shot on ground located over 200 meters away from the paint factory. We have had a hard time getting into the factory because of resistance from workers,”Jeong said.

전투 경찰 박창복은 “볼트가 내 머리 위로 날아갈 때마다, 바람을 가르는 소리를 들었다. 간담이 서늘해진다.”고 말했다. 정무영 쌍용차 홍보부장은 “한 직원은 볼트에 머리를 맞아 병원에서 아홉 바늘을 꿰맸다. 그 직원은 도장공장에서 2백 미터 떨어져 있는 지상에서 맞았다. 점거 노동자들의 저항 때문에 공장 안으로 들어가는데 어려움을 겪고 있다”고 말했다.
