A 47-year-old woman yesterday became the fourth person to die in Korea after being infected with the A(H1N1) flu.
The Ministry of Health said the woman, who resided in the metropolitan Seoul area, was suffering from diabetes, kidney failure and high blood pressure.
The ministry said the woman hadn’t been experiencing respiratory conditions prior to her infection with the virus, unlike the previous three victims in Korea. The ministry said the woman’s death was still under investigation. The other three people to die were in their 50s and 60s. The first death happened on Aug. 15.
The Korean government has scrambled to prepare vaccinations and medicine to counter the disease. Last week, it announced that it would secure 10 million doses of the vaccine this year.
Experts have said the nation is overreacting to the disease, arguing that it can be controlled with proper prevention and care.
