Following the Korean government’s recent culinary diplomacy for Korean War veterans in New York, the Agriculture Ministry and Seoul city government will co-host a gourmet feast called “Amazing Korean Table,” running from Oct. 28 through Nov. 1.
Four chefs who either have won Michelin stars or other famed culinary awards will be invited to demonstrated cooking hansik-inspired dishes on Oct. 29 and 30 at the “World Master Korean Table.”
The invited internationally renowned chefs include Pierre Gagnaire, the three-star Michelin chef owning seven restaurants worldwide, Luke Dale-Roberts, head chef of South Africa’s La Colombe which landed in 38th place in S. Pellegrino’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2009, Massimo Bottura, head chef of Italy’s Osteria Francescana which received two Michelin stars, and Corey Lee, chef of the French Laundry in California’s Napa Valley, a celebrated restaurant with a three-star rating from Michelin.
People who want to taste gourmet Korean dishes created by the famed chefs can enjoy them for lunch and dinner by making reservation at www.amazingkoreantable.com. The cost of the meals varies between 100,000 won and 500,000 won ($85.58 and $427.90).
People who want to watch the chefs showcase their cooking are also required to make reservations.
While the “World Master Korean Table” will attract food festivalgoers, the Young Creative Korean Culinary Competition will bring in aspiring chefs at Korea House in Pil-dong, central Seoul, on Oct. 30. The aspiring chefs who passed the preliminary contest will be allowed to offer their own menus in the Hongdae and Insa-dong areas during Seoul Street Food Festival slated for Oct. 31.
“The festival will be a venue promoting Korean cuisine to the world,” said Bang wu-dal, an official at the Seoul city government.
