Meeting set to plan for capital to be top-class city


Foreign business executives in Korea will convene at the Seoul International Business Advisory Council on Oct. 29 to discuss how Seoul city can become a world-class city, the Seoul city government announced Sunday.

Under the theme of “Branding Global City Seoul,” foreign business leaders will meet at the 9th SIBAC at the Grand Hyatt Seoul in Itaewon, Seoul.

The high-profile business participants include Nobuyuki Koga, chairman of Nomura Securities Co., Ltd, Richard M. Smith, chairman of Newsweek, and John Walker, chairman of Macquarie Group of Companies Korea.

The one-day council consists of four sessions - three opened and one closed.

Nick Reilly, executive vice president at GM and deputy chairman of SIBAC, will moderate the first session, called “How to create and build innovative brand value for Seoul.”

The second session, focusing on how to communicate and implement marketing strategies for Seoul, will be presided by Chee Onn Lim, chairman of SingBridge International Singapore Pte Ltd., who is also a SIBAC deputy chairman.

David Elton, chairman of Dubai International Financial Centre Authority, will lead the third session called “How to Manage Branding Strategies and Customer Relationships for Seoul.”

“Seoul city is expediting its efforts to transform the city into one of the top 10 attractive cities where foreigners want to visit, invest, live and study,” said Choi Hang-do, a senior official at the city government’s Urban Competitiveness Headquarters. “The 9th SIBAC will help the city move a step closer to becoming a global city.”
