TBS celebrates its birthday with a concert

TBS eFM, Seoul’s only all-English radio station, celebrates its first anniversary next Tuesday.

Ahead of its special day, the station will hold a concert called “A Year and Beyond” on Friday in downtown Seoul.

It will be hosted by Ahn Jung-hyun, the regular host of The Evening Show.

The program will feature diverse styles of music with an all-star lineup that includes Canadian new age jazz artist Steve Barakatt, seven-member Korean boy band 2PM, punk band Crying Nut, gugak (traditional Korean music) artist Lee An and Korean popera artist Rose Jang.

Officials at TBS eFM say that the concert reflects the station’s overall mission of bringing together a variety of musical styles and that they hope both Koreans and foreigners will be able to connect with the performances.

In response to the growing number of foreign residents in the country, TBS, or Traffic Broadcasting System, launched its all-English radio station last December. It provides a mix of programs, from news and information to world and local music, and is on the air 24 hours a day.

A Year and Beyond takes place at 8 p.m. on Friday the M Theater of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Seoul. Those interested in attending can register on the station’s Web site, www.tbs.seoul.kr.
