Sub commissioned
Published: 01 Dec. 2009, 23:04
During a commissioning ceremony yesterday in waters off the Naval Force Operations Command in Busan, sailors line up on the third 214-class submarine, named after Ahn Jung-geun, a Korean independence fighter who assassinated Japan’s first resident general, Hirobumi Ito. The submarine, which can carry as many as 40 crew members, has several combat capabilities and the ability to simultaneously track some 300 targets in the water. It can also run at 20 knots per hour (23 miles per hour) and travel back and forth between Busan and Hawaii without being refueled. [NEWSIS]
