Published: 08 Dec. 2009, 09:47
The Korean government today finalized a plan to send about 350 soldiers to Afghanistan to protect civilian rebuilding workers in Parwan Province from July 1, 2010, to Dec. 31, 2012. The plan is pending an approval at the National Assembly.
The Korean forces will be equipped with 81-millimeter trench mortars, armored vehicles and bomb detectors, according to defense officials.
The Provincial Reconstruction Team that will come under the military protection will be made up of about 100 civilian experts and 40 police officers. In November, the Korean government sent an interagency delegation to assess security situations in Afghanistan.
