Pat Metheny

The tracks are definitely solid Metheny: the improvisational feel, acoustic harmonics and sentiment. Crash cymbals and sporadic vibraphone make the fourth track, “Soul Search,” an especially lyrical and accessible ballad.
But what makes this album so special and unique is that the Grammy-winning guitarist and composer has taken himself on a bold adventure: His one-man orchestra includes bass, pianos, marimbas, guitar-bots and blow bottles all working on software programs and solenoid switches controlled by his guitar and pedals. It makes for an album that’s more than worth listening to for those who empathize with Metheny’s desire to explore new musical horizons.
