FKCCI - Annual General Assembly

Today: The Annual General Assembly is an opportunity to review the activities of 2009 and what lies ahead in 2010 and 2011 for the French Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It is also a great opportunity to discuss together how the FKCCI can better serve other organizations and the whole French-Korean business community.

Minister of Government Legislation Lee Seog-yeon, French Ambassador to Korea Elisabeth Laurin and Antoine Chery, Economic and Trade Counselor at the French Embassy, will participate in this event.

The assembly will take place at the Banyan Tree Luxury Hotel and Spa, located in Jangchung-dong, and a French outdoor buffet will be available for all guests.

STANDARD CHARTER - Seminar for Expats: Buying a House in Seoul

Today: Standard Chartered First Bank invites expats to its monthly banking seminar.

This seminar will deal with issues that many foreigners will encounter when attempting to buy property in Seoul.

A real estate agent will give an overview of the market, then several more specific topics will be covered.

First, the type of housing available for purchase in Seoul, which may differ depending on the status of the buyer and the housing itself, will be discussed.

Second, current real estate prices will be laid out with real estate price forecasts and an in-depth analysis of the overall economy.

From the more practical side, the documents and requirements to purchase a house in Korea in addition to information on getting a mortgage in Korea as a foreigner will be dealt with.

The seminar will be held at the Kangnam PB Center, located at Yeoksam-dong.

EUCCK - Finance Seminar

Thursday: The European Union Chamber of Commerce in Korea’s “3rd International Financial Services Seminar” will commence on Thursday.

The lecture’s content will revolve around “sustainable society finance,” which will be discussed by renowned speakers including Kim Jong-chang, governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, and Kim Bong-soo, chairman and CEO of Korea Exchange.

Most importantly, the seminar will deal with the hotly debated topic of sustainable development, especially in the financial market.

The seminar will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, located in Yeoksam-dong.

GLOBAL VILLAGE CENTER - Pulmuone Foods Factory Tour

Thursday: The Global Village Center offers a very special chance to go on a “healthy tofu” picnic and factory tour with Pulmuone Foods.

Participants will learn all about tofu on a factory tour, make their own tofu, see a tofu cooking demonstration and have a delicious picnic, all free of charge. Participants will receive bags of free gifts.

Pulmuone is a Korean food company that makes a variety of fresh food products important in Korean cooking, including eggs, bean sprouts, kimchi, noodles and, of course, tofu.

A bus will be provided to take participants from the Itaewon-Hannam Global Village Center to the Pulmuone Factory. The bus will depart at 9 a.m., so participants must arrive by 8:45 a.m. to check in. The bus will return to the Global Village Center at 4 p.m.

AMCHAM - Busan Committee Launching Event

Friday: The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea is launching its Busan Committee.

Busan is Korea’s second-largest city, and foreign investment in the larger Busan area is blossoming. For anyone who has a business in the Busan area, who is contemplating setting up shop there or who has links in the region, this event will offer useful information.

Attendees will include Amcham Honorary Chair Ambassador Kathleen Stephens, Amcham leaders and the new Amcham Busan Committee co-chairs.

Other special guests in attendance will include members of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, local business leaders and officials.

The seminar will be held at the Novotel Ambassador Busan.

KOTESOL - Seoul ESL Teachers’Workshop

Saturday: The Korea Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, or Kotesol, will hold their monthly workshop for ESL teachers. The workshops are open to members and nonmembers alike.

This lecture will focus on generational shifts taking place today, especially regarding computers. Computer technology is understood to be the best way to support traditional teaching, to research and present key lesson points and to provide in-service training and professional development.

The lecture will mainly focus on the Technology Assisted Language Learning program, which Koh Janis, the president of Intercultural Communications College, will introduce.

The seminar will be held at Injaeguan Center at Sookmyung Women’s University located in Cheongpa-dong.
