Indians’ outfielder Choo out with right thumb injury

CLEVELAND - Indians outfielder Choo Shin-soo is out of the lineup against the Oakland Athletics because of an injury to his right thumb.

Choo was injured while attempting a diving catch on Jack Cust’s double in the eighth inning Friday night. His glove hand appeared to bend awkwardly when he hit the ground. Choo was removed in the top of the ninth.

Cleveland manager Manny Acta said Choo would have an MRI this weekend.

Choo is hitting .286 with 13 homers and 43 RBIs in 78 games. He could be Cleveland’s only All-Star representative when teams are announced Sunday.
