Jurassic lotuses
After 700 years of waiting, the lotuses finally get to bloom. In May 2009, the Gaya National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage found 10 lotus seeds approximately four meters beneath a pond in Sungsan Fortress, a historic site of the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392). Out of 10 seeds, three germinated. Haman Agricultural Center is planning to cultivate the ancient lotuses to make a lotus park by December next year. [YONHAP]
