‘Turandot’ at World Cup canceled

An outdoor Korean production of Puccini’s “Turandot,” which was scheduled to open tomorrow at Seoul World Cup Stadium in northwestern Seoul, has been canceled because of weather and low ticket sales.

In a statement posted on Ticketlink last Wednesday, AP Entertainment cited “unexpected rain and heat” as reasons for the show’s cancellation.

Another reason was the “significantly low reservation rate,” according to Yonhap, quoting an anonymous AP Entertainment official.

Attempts by the JoongAng Daily to contact AP representatives for comment were unsuccessful.

Ticket holders will receive a full refund within a week, regardless of the original payment method, as soon as account information is confirmed, AP Entertainment said in the statement. The production company also said that it may try to present the production in October.

This is the company’s second attempt to hold the opera.

The first performance run was pushed back from the end of April following the sinking of the naval vessel Cheonan. The inaugural performance of the opera on Jeju Island at the end of last month was also canceled.
