Superb final brings young Korean shooter the gold

SINGAPORE - Korean shooter Kim Jang-mi was on target as she won the country’s 10th gold medal at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

In the women’s 10-meter air pistol, Kim shot 479.2 points to beat China’s Fang Xue, who had 471.5 points.

Kim had tied Fang for the top qualifying score at 378 points, but easily defeated the Chinese 101.2 to 93.5 in the final, when shooters had 10 shots apiece.

Kim is the top-ranked high school shooter in Korea.

Her head coach Lee Yong-jae said, “Kim was absolutely calm and steady today, and Fang really struggled in the final and gave us the easy victory.”

After Kim’s victory, South Korea had 10 gold medals along with two silvers and two bronzes, ranking it third.
