Annual WeAJa charity flea market set Oct. 17
The annual WeAJa charity flea market will be Oct. 17 and will be held at four locations: Seoul, at the Seoul World Cup Stadium; Busan, at the Bexco outdoor exhibition center; Daejeon, at Daejeon City Hall, South Gate Plaza; and Jeonju, at the plaza in front of the North Jeolla Provincial Government Office.
The event is co-hosted by the JoongAng Media Network, which owns the JoongAng Ilbo and the JoongAng Daily, and more than 20 other institutions, including newspapers, broadcasters, Internet companies, magazines and local governments. The event is supported by Beautiful Store and We Start is sponsored by GS Caltex.
This year’s WeAJa theme is recycling - encouraging the culture of sharing and educating children regarding economics and the environment. Participating families, companies and organizations will offer items that are not usually sold and will donate profits to We Start, to enhance the capabilities of children.
There will be various activities during the event. Some of them include making paper from waste paper, face-painting with eco-friendly icons, and making shopping bags from abandoned banners.
Auctioning off items donated by celebrities and buying recycled goods are steps that will be taken toward the goal of preventing global warming, organizers say.
Organizers also say that the activities put the focus of the charity event on the art of sharing.
The market will be open from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. The opening ceremony will be from noon to 12:30 p.m. To sign up for a stall, visit http://weaja.joins.com. There are about 800 stands in Seoul and 200 spaces in Jeonju available. Each of the Busan and Daejeon locations has around 300 stalls.
