Ecuadorean president to visit Seoul

Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa will visit South Korea next week for talks with President Lee Myung-bak on establishing a closer partnership, mainly in the energy and infrastructure sector, the Blue House announced Friday.

“Rafael Correa is scheduled to visit our country from Sept. 8-10 at the invitation of President Lee,” it said in a press release. This would be the first trip here by an Ecuadorian president since 2002.

The leaders plan to discuss “ways for substantial cooperation between the two nations in various fields such as politics, trade, investment, development, energy, natural resources, infrastructure, information and communication and environment,” the Blue House said.

“Lee will ask for Correa’s support and cooperation so that South Korean companies can take part in Ecuador’s major energy and infrastructure projects,” it added.

Correa also plans to meet with South Korean business leaders and tour industrial facilities. Yonhap
