Korea will send baseball experts later this month to analyze the Taiwanese team’s strategy ahead of what will probably be one of the decisive face-offs between the rivals at next month’s Asian Games.
The Korea Baseball Organization said Thursday that it will send a three-member team to the Intercontinental Cup Oct. 23-31 in Taichung, Taiwan.
Korea is aiming for a gold medal at the Guangzhou Asian Games that kicks off its 16-day run on Nov. 12. Defending champion Taiwan is one of the main hurdles in Korea’s bid to reclaim the title after eight years.
Taiwan is expected to send its big name players, including Huang Chih-lung and Lin Yi-hao of Japan’s Yomiuri Giants, to the Intercontinental Cup as a warm-up for the Asiad.
At the Asian Games, Korea and Taiwan are in the same group, along with Hong Kong and Pakistan, in vying for the semifinal berths. The group’s winner will take on the runner-up from the other group in the semifinals.
