Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) was known as a great orator, but he was also considered one of the most fashionable U.S. presidents, outside of John F. Kennedy. But while Kennedy exhibited a young and progressive style, Reagan projected a mature and experienced image. Reagan’s fashion philosophy was that the way one looks sends a message. Today, he is remembered as a president who utilized his clothing as a means to express his political stance. His conservative idea of a “powerful and prosperous America” was contained in the dark suits he liked to wear.

Writing Tip
ⓐ Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) is known as a great orator, but he is also considered → Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) was known as a great orator, but he was also considered
ⓑ “your look is a message.” → that the way one looks sends a message
ⓒ Reagan is → Today, he is 과거의 인물이나 현재의 평판을 말하는 것이므로 today 첨가, 영어는 같은 말의 반복을 피하므로 대명사의 빈도가 높음, Reagan을 he로 수정.
ⓔ philosophy of → idea of a
ⓕ his dark colored → the dark

In Korea, our ancestors used four standards of personal evaluation, the body, the speech, the writing and the judgment. However, one could express his political tendency through his outfit. In the late Joseon period, factional confrontation was at its height, and politicians and officials of different political factions wore different attires.
ⓒ you are serving → they served
