Pyeongchang makes its case in Guangzhou

GUANGZHOU, China - Organizers of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics bid appealed their case to top sports officials from around the world here on Saturday, building their case on compact and efficient plans to run the event.

Officials for Pyeongchang’s bid committee gave a 10-minute presentation at a downtown hotel during the general assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia.

Two other candidate cities for the 2018 Winter Games, Munich and Annecy, France, also had a chance to push their bids.

According to Pyeongchang officials, Cho Yang-ho, chairman of the bid committee, called for the expansion of the “Olympic Movement” in Asia by awarding the Winter Olympics to the continent and said Pyeongchang, located 180 kilometers east of Seoul, would create a new continental market for winter sports with full government support and a passionate fan base.
