Saturday: The Royal Asiatic Society is hosting a Mungyong Pass Hiking and Mirus Temple tour on Dec. 18.

The tour will head southeast of Cheongju and begin the hike to the Mungyeong Pass from the Suanbo side. As one of the five principal passes in the Mount Sobaek range, it was once a main route between the old Gyeongsang and Chungcheong provinces.

The pass played a strategic role in deterring the influx of foreign troops from the south, and it has been the scene of several armed conflicts. The hike itself will take about three hours. The tour costs 47,000 won ($41.06) for members and 56,400 won for non-members, including transportation and entrance fee.

The bus will leave from the Korean Yongsan Post Office at 8:30 a.m. on Dec.18. Go to Sinyongsan Station line No.4, Exit No.1. It returns to Seoul at around 8:00 p.m.

Reservations can be confirmed until Wednesday, Dec.15. For more information, visit http://www.raskb.com or call (02)763-9483 or via email raskb@kornet.net
