Now, the Chinese government appears to be pushing even harder/ 이제 중국은 더욱 밀어 부치려고하는것 같다/ for the idea of an emergency meeting among senior officials of the six parties,/6자회담 긴급 수석대표 회의를 개최하기 위해/ regardless of explicit opposition from south Korea, the US and Japan./ 한,미,일의 분명한 반대의사에도 불구하고/ Although North Korean Foreign Minister Park Ui-chun has already vowed to “augment our nuclear deterrence,”/ 북한 박의춘 외무상이 “핵억제력을 강화할 것” 이라고 밝혔는데도/ China is still moving in step with the North Koreans,/ 중국은 북한과 발을 맞추어 나가고 있다/ rather than criticizing them./ 북한을 비판하기 보다는/
We are deeply concerned/ 우려되는 바는/ that China’s lopsided defense of Pyongyang will further encourage, rather than contain, North Korea’s ever growing bellicosity./ 중국의 일반적인 북한 감싸기는 더더욱 호전적이 되어가는 북한의 도발을 억제하기는커녕 오히려 조장하지 않을까 라는 점이다./ China argues that the security of the Korean Peninsula is essential./ 중국은 한반도의 안전이 필수적이라고 강조한다./ But it has always taken the contradictory position/ 그러나 중국은 일관하여 모순된 입장을 견지해 오면서/ of demanding that the South endure the North’s belligerence while taking no action./ 먼저공격을 해온 북한에 대해서 아무런 대응조치를 취하지 않으면서 한국이 인내심을 갖고 참아야 한다고 주장한다./
Does China want to see a revival of the Cold War in Northeast Asia?/ 중국은 동북아 지역에서 신냉전시대가 형성되는 것을 원하고 있는 것인가?/ The international community, including South Korea, believes/ 한국을 비롯하여 국제사회가 믿는바는/ that the Chinese government is still of the position/ 중국 정부가 견지하고 있는 입장이 / that such a situation is against China’s national interests./ 이 지역에 냉정구도가 형성된다면 중국의 국익에도 손해라고 생각하고 있을 것이라는 점이다.
But China’s recent actions make us feel we may have been wrong./그러나 중국의 최근 행보를 보면 우리의 이런 믿음이 잘못일 수 있다는 느낌마저 든다./ China should listen to Obama’s advice/ 중국은 오바마 대통령의 충고를 주의해서 들어야한다./ that it, too, will face serious danger as long as it continues to shield it recalcitrant ally./ 중국이 고집 불통의 북한을 계속 싸고 돌면 중국도 심각한 위험에 처하게 될 것이다.
