Italian teen dies of suspected meningitis

PARIS - Italian ski jumper Simona Senoner, who fell into a coma after competing in an event in Germany, may have died from meningitis, the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) said on Sunday.

The 17-year-old was flown by helicopter to a Freiburg hospital from Schonach in Germany’s Black Forest, but failed to regain consciousness. Senoner, from Santa Cristina, Italy, had been in Germany to take part in the Continental Cup.
