Seeking harmonious growth, Lee plans meeting

President Lee Myung-bak will reach out to the business community next week to exchange opinions on how to facilitate harmonious growth between small companies and conglomerates, the Blue House said yesterday.

Lee will meet with heads of the country’s 30 largest conglomerates on Monday in an event designed to discuss measures to boost exports, investments and employment, presidential spokeswoman Kim Hee-jung said.

Leaders of the country’s five major business organizations, including the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will also attend.

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee, Hyundai Kia Automotive Group Chairman Chung Mong-koo, LG Group Chairman Koo Bon-moo and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won are among the expected participants.

“The meeting will also be an opportunity for the president to appreciate the conglomerates’ performance in exports,” Kim said. “Korea was ranked as the seventh largest exporter last year.”

Lee will also meet with small-business owners on Wednesday.

“We are planning the session because small and medium companies are one axis of harmonious growth, along with conglomerates,” Kim said.

While no specific decisions were made on who will be invited, Kim said small-company CEOs that represent the country’s new growth engine will be selected.

이명박 대통령은 오는 26일 중소기업인과 간담회를 열고 대기업-중소기업 동반성장 등에 대한 의견을 교환한다.

이 대통령은 이날 열리는 '중소기업 경쟁력 제고를 위한 간담회'에서 '스몰 자이언츠(small giants)'로 불릴 수 있는 기업 가운데 비교적 적게 부각됐거나 신성장 동력산업계를 대표할 수 있는 기업의 경영진을 초청해 경영상 애로사항 등을 청취할 예정이다.

김희정 청와대 대변인은 18일 브리핑에서 "중소기업은 대기업과 동반성장의 한 축이기 때문에 대기업 총수를 만나는 데 이어 중소기업인과 간담회를 여는 것"이라면서 "앞으로 투자 및 일자리 창출을 함께하자는 격려 자리도 겸했다"고 말했다.

앞서 이 대통령은 지난해 9월 대기업과 중소기업 최고경영자들을 청와대로 초청해 독일의 '히든 챔피언(hidden champion)'과 일본의 '장수 기업'의 장점을 접목한 글로벌 중소기업인 '스몰 자이언츠' 육성을 위한 환경을 조성하겠다고 밝힌 바 있다.

구체적인 기업 대표의 참석 범위와 행사 장소 등은 앞으로 실무 논의를 거쳐 확정키로 했다. …
