Labor activist Lee Yong-deuk after being elected president of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), one of Korea’s two largest labor umbrella unions, yesterday. Lee succeeds Jang Seok-choon, who finishes his three-year term this month, union officials said. Lee said yesterday that his organization will sever a policy alliance with the ruling Grand National Party and push for sweeping reforms. Lee and his secretary general candidate Bae Jeong-geun pledged to push for major changes to newly revised labor laws that allow multiple unions and restrictions on full-time unionists’ pay. [YONHAP]
