*ET Land Elephants (38-15) at LG Sakers (26-26)
*Changwon Arena, Changwon, South Gyeongsang
*Sunday, 3 p.m.
In what is one of the few games of significance in the KBL this weekend - the final one before the playoffs start March 25 - the LG Sakers, just one game up on the sixth-seeded Samsung Thunders, could seal the league’s fifth seed with a win Sunday over second-place ET Land. That would be huge for the Sakers, who would play fourth place Dongbu in the first round of the playoffs instead of the third-place KCC Egis, which is 33-19 going into the weekend.
K-League
*Gyeongnam FC (2-0-0) at Daejeon Citizen FC (1-1-0)
*Daejeon World Cup Stadium, Daejeon
*Sunday, 3 p.m.
Gyeongnam and Daejeon have been two early-season K-League surprises and the winner of this match could potentially take first place in the standings - depending on how other teams perform this weekend. Daejeon is getting good minutes out of young midfielder Kim Seong-jun but this match will provide the perfect opportunity to see how he sizes up against Gyeongnam’s own 20-year-old star, Yoon Bit-garam, who has national team experience and several K-League goals to his name.
*Suwon Bluewings (2-0-0) at Pohang Steelers (1-1-0)
*Steelyard Stadium, Pohang, South Gyeongsang
*Sunday, 4 p.m.
Suwon and Pohang were expected to contend for the K-League title this year and so far things are going their way. Suwon won its first two matches and has leapt ahead in the standings thanks to its smart play and star players. The Bluewings’ best win was a 2-0 domination of FC Seoul in front of a raucous crowd at Seoul’s World Cup Stadium two weeks ago. The Steelers, meanwhile, drew with Seongnam in week one and edged Jeonnam 1-0 last week. The winner here could also be on top of the league after Sunday.
