Lady Gaga raises $250,000 for Japan quake victims
“Monsters: in just 48 hrs you’ve raised a quarter of a million dollars for Japan Relief,” Gaga said on Twitter. “It’s important we help.”
Gaga launched the white wristbands with their prayerful message written in red in English and Japanese, via a Twitter message on Monday, three days after a 9.0-magnitude quake struck off the coast of northeastern Japan, triggering a killer tsunami.
The wristbands are available for $5 and can be pre-ordered on Gaga’s official online store. All proceeds will go directly to Japan relief efforts, according to the site.
The site does not say if the singer has designated a specific charity to receive the funds or if she will set up her own, but on her official Facebook page, Gaga has posted a link to a fundraising site for Save the Children’s Japan relief effort.
Gaga has more than 30 million fans on Facebook and in excess of eight million followers on Twitter. If each of her Twitter followers were to buy a wristband, the award-winning singer would help raise more than $40 million for victims of the quake and tsunami in Japan, which have claimed more than 4,200 lives so far, with more than 8,000 still missing.

가가는 16일 자신의 트위터를 통해 "단 48시간 만에 일본 돕기 성금으로 25만달러가 모였다. 우리가 돕는다는 것이 중요하다"고 밝혔다.
가가는 지난 14일 트위터 글을 통해 흰 바탕에 빨간 글씨로 '우리는 일본을 위해 기도한다'라는 문장이 영어와 일본어로 새겨진 손목밴드를 자신의 웹사이트에서 사줄 것을 호소했다.
밴드 가격은 5달러지만 기부를 더 원하는 사람은 그 이상을 낼 수도 있으며 수익금은 모두 일본 지진 피해자들을 돕는 데 쓰인다.
가가는 이날 현재 세계에서 가장 많은 트위터 팔로어(880만명)를 자랑하고 있어, 그의 팔로어가 모두 이 손목밴드를 사면 4천만달러 이상을 모금할 수 있다.
